SUMMARY

1. Controlled by switches or myoelectric signals and are powered with energy provided from external batteries, can be hand-like or non-hand-like.

2. Myoelectric-controlled terminal devices: use surface electrodes placed on the muscles of the residual limb, can have digital-control (on/off) or proportional-control (speed of action is proportional to the stimulus from the muscles).

3. Micro-switch-controlled terminal devices: use either a push-button switch or a pull-switch to activate the terminal device.
