The following are neuropsychological assessment and behavioral management principles:
1. Assessment by a medical specialist to differentiate neurobehavioral difficulties from symptoms of a functional illness (such as seizures or psychiatric disorders)
2. Patients cared for by trained staff who understand behavioral issues
3. Education for patient and family

4. Any behavioral management plan should consider triggers/precipitating factors

5. Formulate a crisis prevention plan

6. Any restrictive interventions (restraints) must be subject to professional and administrative review
