STROKE-BRUNNSTROM STAGES OF MOTOR RECOVERY
SUMMARY
1. Flaccid paralysis (immediately after onset). No reflexes.
2. Spasticity appears. No voluntary movement. Basic synergy patterns appear.
3. Patient gains voluntary control over synergies. Spasticity is marked.
4. Some movement patterns out of synergy are mastered. Spasticity decreases.
5. More complex movement combinations are learned as the basic synergies lose their dominance over motor acts. Spasticity wanes.
6. Disappearance of spasticity.
