SPASTICITY-ORTHOPEDIC PROCEDURES

SUMMARY

1. Tendon lengthening/release, Z-plasty (Achilles tendon), tenotomy (palmaris longus, hamstrings, iliopsoas), myotomy (adductors).

2. Split Anterior Tibial Tendon Transfer (SPLATT): used to treat equinovarus deformity. Spasticity in the TA muscle causes dorsiflexion & eversion of the foot while the spastic gastro-soleus complex causes plantarflexion.

3. Other tendon transfers procedures: brachioradialis transfer to the extensor side of the forearm; FHL & FDL transfer to the calcaneus.
