SERONEGATIVE ARTHRITIS

SUMMARY

1. Seronegative autoimmune arthritis.

2. Common pathologies: psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, non-radiographic axial spondyloarthropathy, reactive arthritis (UTI, gastroenteritis, STDs), Reiter's syndrome, others.

3. Male predominant, onset in teens to early 20s.

4. Runs a waxing-and-waning course, asymmetric arthritis involving larger joints, lower extremities.

DIFFERENCES FROM RA
5. Classically involves spondylitis, enthisitis (Achilles tendinitis, plantar fascitis), tendinitis.

6. Excess bone production, rather than bone loss in RA.

7. Linked to HLA-B27.
