SUMMARY

1. Triangular in cross-section, closed in front and behind.

2. The lateral exits are blocked and must be circumvented via the 4 anterior & posterior sacral foramina.

3. S5 foramen is formed by the cornua (horn) of the sacrum & coccyx.

4. Dura extends down to S2.

5. The sacral nerve roots unite distal to the DRG, which are located within the intervertebral foramina, between the pedicles.

6. The filum terminale runs down to blend with the periosteum at the back of the coccyx.
