RENAL TUBULAR ACIDOSIS (RTA)-TYPE 2

SUMMARY

1. Type 2 proximal RTA is a problem with bicarbonate resorption (bicarbonate wasting) in the proximal tubule.

2. Along with this, co-transport of Na+ with glucose, amino acids, Cl-, and K+ is also affected.

3. May present as Fanconi syndrome - glucosuria, amino aciduria, and wasting of other solutes, including Mg, uric acid, and phosphorus.
