SUMMARY

1. 65% of filtered Na+, Cl-, HCO3- and water is reabsorbed in the proximal tubule (PT).

2. The PT is very permeable to water, which is reabsorbed in a 1:1 fashion with Na+

3. For each H+ that is secreted, one Na+ and one HC03- are reabsorbed.
