SUMMARY
1. Serum creatinine: from metabolism of creatine in skeletal muscle and dietary meat intake.
2. Very variable and depends on age, sex, body size.
3. Creatinine is freely filtered across the glomeruli and not reabsorbed in the tubules but also secreted by proximal tubules.
4. Glomerular filtration rate (GFR): 180 l/day or 125 ml/min of plasma.
5. GFR cannot be measured directly.
