PULMONARY INVESTIGATIONS-BIOPSY

SUMMARY

1. Perform lung biopsy in the following: ILD, sarcoidosis, cancer, cryptogenic/eosinophilic pneumonia, vasculitis, or certain infections.

2. Collect biopsies by the transbronchial, endobronchial, transthoracic needle, open lung approach, or by video-assisted thoracoscopic lung surgical (VATS) approaches.

3. The technique chosen depends on where abnormalities are located, use CXR and HRCT to plan.
