PRESSURE ULCERS-PATHOLOGY

From NeuroRehab.wiki

SUMMARY

1. In general, the more pressure applied, the shorter the duration to produce pressure injury.

2. Muscle in the most sensitive, whereas skin is most resistant to pressure injury. Therefore pressure injuries involve deep tissues first.

3. However myocutaneous flaps are commonly used (despite muscles being sensitive) as they provide well-vascularized tissue to fill in dead space and the suture-line can be fashioned away from the pressure area.
