PRESSURE ULCERS-OTHER ULCERS

SUMMARY

VENOUS ULCER
1. assoc. with varicose veins, DVTs, venous insufficiency.
2. Over the medial aspect of the leg.
3. Ulcer is shallow with flat margins, moderate-heavy exudate, slough at base with granulation tissue.

ARTERIAL ULCER
1. assoc. with PVD, smoking, HTN.
2. Over pressure points, toes, feet, lateral malleolus.
3. Punched out, deep, necrotic base, minimal exudate unless infected.

NEUROPATHIC ULCER
1. assoc. with DM, PVD, prolonged immobility.
2. Over plantar aspect of the foot, tip of toes, lateral 5th MT.
3. Deep, surrounded by callus, insensate.

PRESSURE ULCER
1. assoc. with prolonged immobility.
2. Over bony prominences, heel.
3. Deep, macerated.
