SUMMARY
1. AKA neuronal collateral sprouting.
2. Intact axons establish synaptic connections through dendritic and axonal sprouting in areas where damage has occurred.
3. May enhance recovery of function, may contribute to unwanted symptoms, or may be neutral (with no increase or decrease of function).
4. Thought to occur weeks to months post-injury.
