SUMMARY
1. Decreased energy intake: cognitive impairment and depression, hyposmia, dysphagia, gastroparesis, constipation, inability to feed oneself properly.
2. Increased metabolic demand: tremors, rigidity, dyskinesia.
3. Medication-related effects: nausea & vomiting from dopaminergic drugs, enhanced lipolysis & growth hormone secretion from levodopa administration.
4. Impaired homeostatic regulation: hypothalamic dysfunction and neuroendocrine pathology.
5. Other factors: low-protein diet, lack of caregivers or poor caregiver support.
