OSTEOPOROSIS-PATIENT EDUCATION
SUMMARY
1. OP is a condition in which the bone becomes fragile & brittle, leading to higher risk of fractures than in normal bone.
2. OP occurs when bone loses minerals such as Ca2+ quicker than the body can replace them.
3. As a result the bone becomes thinner & less dense so that even a minor bump or fall can lead to serious fractures.
4. These are known as fragility or minimal trauma fractures.
