ORTHOSES-UPPER LIMB SPLINTS

SUMMARY

1. Non-articular: does not cross a joint.

2. Static: holds joints stationary.

3. Serial static: periodically changed to alter joint angle at which the splint is positioned.

4. Static motion-blocking: permits uni-directional motions (eg. swan-neck splint).

5. Static progressive: these place force on a joint to induce progressive change.

6. Dynamic: uses elastic force to regain joint motion.

7. Dynamic motion-blocking.
