SUMMARY

1. Not only assoc. with DM but also IGT, produces length-dependent neuropathy. Occurs in 25% of patients with idiopathic neuropathy.

SYMMETRIC PRESENTATION
2. Distal, symmetric axonal sensorimotor neuropathy (commonest presentation)

3. Small-fiber, painful neuropathy: common feature of both pre-diabetic and diabetic neuropathy (image a)

4. Autonomic neuropathy (image d)

ASYMMETRIC PRESENTATION

5. Cranial neuropathy: pupil-sparing CN III involvement

6. Multifocal or entrapment: carpal tunnel syndrome (image c)

7. Radicular or plexus involvement: produces diabetic amyotrophy (image d)
