1. Pharmacological: anticonvulsants, antidepressants, opioids.

2. Addressing psychosocial issues.

3. Pain self-management training (with a psychologist), however there is significnat equity of access problems.

4. Hospital-based treatment.

5. Community-based programs.

6. Novel treatments: TENS, graded motor imagery, neuromodulation.

Tip: start talking to patients earlier on about developing self-management strategies. This is more successful in patients who take initiative and a proactive approach. Set expectations from early-on.
