NERVE INJURY-NEUROPRAXIA

From NeuroRehab.wiki

SUMMARY

1. Least severe injury, is characterized by focal conduction block.

2. Conduction across the zone of nerve injury is inhibited, however, conduction proximal & distal to the lesion remains intact.

3. Continuity of all structures is preserved.

4. Wallerian degeneration does not occur (no axonal loss) but there is focal demyelination.

5. Complete recovery is evident in 3 to 6 weeks, conduction block is restored once myelin regeneration is restored.
