SUMMARY
1. More severe injury, with disruption of axons, surrounding myelin & endoneurial sheaths.
2. Perineurium and epineurimum remain intact.
3. Wallerian degeneration occurs.
4. After axonotmesis, conduction velocity may be preserved distally for up to 7 days.
5. Recovery is good but may require many months.
