NEGLECT-RIGHT HEMISPHERE LESIONS

From NeuroRehab.wiki

SUMMARY

1. Right parietal lobe lesions: neglect of visual, auditory, somatosensory information.

2. Right frontal lobe lesions: leads to right head turning and right-gaze deviation.

3. Right cingulate gyrus lesions: decreased desire to turning to the left hemi-space even if safety is an issue.

4. The left hemisphere is responsible for modulating attention and arousal for the right visual field only; the right hemisphere is responsible for modulating attention and arousal in both hemispheres.

5. With left hemispheric stroke, the right hemisphere is able to compensate resulting in a lower incidence of neglect. However, the left hemisphere is not able to fully compensate for right sided stroke resulting in neglect.
