SUMMARY

1. Appropriate prospective treatment is required to prevent contractures or deformity.

2. Stretching, bracing, positioning & seating support can prevent contractures & scoliotic deformity.

3. Wheelchair prescriptions should include a firm seat, appropriate lumbar, trunkal and arm support.

4. Post-polio syndrome patients place significant stress on the knees, precipitating genu valgus or genu recurvatum deformity which should be treated using a knee-ankle-foot orthosis.
