LUMBAR PUNCTURE AND EPIDURAL ANESTHESIA
From NeuroRehab.wiki
SUMMARY
1. The needle is inserted between the L3/4 and L4/5 inter-space.
2. The needle passes through the supraspinous ligament → interspinous ligament → through/between the ligamentum flavum → dura → subarachnoid space.
3. Since the spinal cord ends at L1/2, there is little danger to the cord.
4. This procedure is similar to spinal anesthesia where the anesthetic is injected into the subarachnoid space.
5. In epidural anesthesia the solution is injected into the epidural space without entering the subarachnoid space.
