1. Complex clinical syndrome that results from a structural or functional disoder that impairs the ability of the ventricle to fill with or eject blood. 2. 2013 ACC/AHA classification: systolic HF (EF < 40%), diastolic HF (EF > 50%).
3. Changes occur in multiple organs that are ultimately maladaptive.
