SUMMARY

Factors to consider in returning to driving with manual car:
1. Patient should not drive for 4 weeks post-stroke
2. Physical and sensory changes: hemiparesis/hemiplegia
3. Consider car modifications depending on the side and severity of deficits
4. Consider changing to automatic car
5. Vision problems: neglect and visual field defect
6. Increased risk of seizures

7. Cognitive issues:
i. Difficulty judging distances and where objects are
ii. Difficulty understanding the road rules
iii. Reduced memory or concentration
iv. Difficulty solving problems
v. Slower reaction time
vi. Increased fatigue or tiredness
vii. Becoming more easily stressed or overwhelmed while driving
