SUMMARY
1. Osteopenia/osteoporosis due to decreased weight-bearing: increase likelihood of fractures.
2. Immobilization causes reduction in ligament strength & increased laxity, and collagen degradation.
3. Joint contractures.
4. Cartilage degeneration leading to OA.
5. Hypercalcemia peaks at 3-7 weeks post-immobilization.
