CN XII (HYPOGLOSSAL)-C. COURSE

SUMMARY
1. From its exit through the hypoglossal canal, it runs over the inferior ganglion of the vagus, internal carotid, external carotid and lingual arteries.
2. It lies between these arteries and deep to the internal jugular vein.
3. It passes into the mouth over the hyoglossus, deep to the myelohyoid.
4. Running over the greater horn of the hyoid it splits up to supply all the intrinsic & extrinsic muscles of the tongue except the palatoglossus.
