CN IX (GLOSSOPHARYNGEAL)-D. BRANCHES
SUMMARY
1. Tympanic branch: middle ear, mastoid, bony part of the auditory tube, secretory-motor to the parotid
2. Nerve to the stylopharyngeus
3. Carotid sinus nerve: supplies the carotid sinus baroreceptors & carotid body chemoreceptors
4. Pharyngeal branches: common sensation from the oropharynx, parasympathetic (from inferior salivary nucleus) & taste to the mucous and serous glands of the oropharynx
5. Tonsilar branch: mucous membrane of the palatine tonsil
6. Lingual branch: supplies the posterior 1/3 of the tongue with sensation and secretomotor fibres
7. Meningeal branch: posterior fossa meninges
