SUMMARY

1. Assessment of proprioception; tests the dorsal columns, not the cerebellum.

2. Positive test: imbalance with eyes closed; indicates loss of proprioception.

3. Marked unsteadiness with eyes open is seen with cerebellar or vestibular dysfunction.
