CILIARY GANGLION-ROOTS
SUMMARY
1. Parasympathetic: pre-ganglionic fibers arise from the Edinger-Westphal nucleus in the midbrain and relay in the ganglion.
2. Sympathetic: post-ganglionic fibers arise from the cavernus sinus plexus and pass through the ganglion without relay.
3. Sensory: branch of the nasociliary nerve, passes through the ciliary ganglion without relay to the trigeminal ganglion.
4. Sensory supply: whole eye, sclera, cornea, iris, ciliary body; but not the conjunctiva. Division of the root abolishes the corneal reflex but not conjunctival reflex.
