SUMMARY

1. Anterior: prevertebral fascia lies anterior to the prevertebral muscles

2. Lateral: second part of the vertebral artery and veins run through the foramen transversarium of C2

3. Posterior: suboccipital triangle and contents lie posteriorly

4. Central: medulla, spinal cord & basivertebral veins lie centrally
