SUMMARY

1. Dexamethasone IV or orally to decrease brain oedema and symptoms.

2. Antiepileptic medications to control or prevent seizures.

3. Whole brain radiation therapy (XRT).

4. Stereotactic radiosurgery (radiation therapy), which gives high doses of radiation to a limited field, increases response rates to isolated mets and spares injury to the rest of the brain.

5. Chemotherapy. Chemotherapy and radiation may produce neurologic deficits, including impaired visual perceptual skills, memory, and judgment.

5. Neurosurgical evaluation to consider resection of single or a couple of metastases when indicated.
