BLADDER-INFRASACRAL (LMN) IMPAIRMENT, CAUSES

SUMMARY

Presents as detrusor areflexia & atonia of the pelvic floor muscles; causing non-contractile bladder with leakage from overflow. Lesion involving the sacral micturition center (S2-S4) or peripheral innervation of the bladder.

CAUSES
1. Spinal shock: reflex arc not functioning due to initial trauma.
2. Conus medullaris syndrome & cauda equina syndrome due to tumor, infection, trauma, stroke.
3. Syringomyelia.
4. Tethered cord syndrome.
