BLADDER-DETRUSOR SPHINCTER DYSSYNERGIA (DSD)

From NeuroRehab.wiki

SUMMARY

1. Neurological injury between the sacral (S2-S4) and pontine micturition centers causes a lack of coordinated regulation of bladder function.

2. This can lead to high bladder pressures and should be treated to minimize renal dysfunction.

3. Small, overactive, spastic bladder (detrusor hyperreflexia) & spastic internal sphincter (sphincter hyperactivity).

4. Complications: vesicoureteric reflux resulting in increased residual volumes, recurrent UTIs.
