AUTONOMIC DYSREFLEXIA
SUMMARY
1. Characterised by an exaggerated hypertension & reflex bradycardia.
2. Occurs in patients with SCI at T6 and above. The higher the lesion, the more severe the bouts of AD.
3. 48%-85% incidence.
4. Occurs after period of spinal shock, hence uncommon before 2 months after injury.
5. Common between 6-12 months after injury.
6. 75% of patients experience AD by 1 year.
7. Also reported after posterior-fossa tumor resection.
