ASIA-IMPAIRMENT GRADING
SUMMARY
- Neurological level: lowest level of intact sensation & anti-gravity muscle function (provided they are normal above).
- Neurological level of injury is the most caudal level at which both the sensory and motor modalities are intact on both sides of the body.
1. ASIA A: Complete injury. No voluntary anal contraction & no sensation at sacral segments (S4-5) & no deep anal sensation.
2. ASIA B: Sensory incomplete. No voluntary anal contraction & motor function > 3 levels below NLI & sensation present anywhere (to any degree) below NLI.
3. ASIA C: Motor incomplete. Voluntary anal contraction & > 50% of motor function < 3 below NLI.
4. ASIA D: Motor incomplete. Voluntary anal contraction & > 50% of motor function > 3 below NLI.
5. ASIA E: intact motor & sensory function.
