ARRHYTHMIAS-DRUG SIDE EFFECTS
SUMMARY
1. Class 1: prolongs QT-interval and increases QRS interval.Quinidine, disopyramide can lead to torsades de pointes. Procaainamide causes drug-induced lupus.2. Class 2: beta-blockers can cause hypotension, decrease libido and cause impotence.
3. Class 3: all of these prolong QT-interval, increase QRS interval and lead to torsades de pointes. Amiodarone: because of its high iodine content, the most toxic, SE: corneal deposits, gray skin, hypoe/hypothyroidism, pulmonary fibrosis.
4. Digitalis toxicity: occurs in patients with low K+, low Mg+2, low low pO2, low renal function. Determined by changes in ECG, not in blood levels.
