SUMMARY

1. Ideomotor: inability to carry out motor commands (e.g. gestures such as waving 'goodbye'). Type of motor commands: buccofacial commands (e.g. blow out a match), limb commands (e.g. show me how to salute), whole-body commands (e.g. swing a baseball bat)[1].

2. Ideational: inability to plan movement (e.g. sequence of events such as putting toothpaste on brush and brushing teeth). Usually seen in bilateral brain disease assoc. with widespread intellectual deterioration[2].

3. Constructional: inability to construct simple configurations (e.g. clock drawing test). Usually seen in non-dominant parietal lobe disease[3].

4. Verbal: inability to coordinate mouth & speech movements (e.g. asking patient to say words). Usually seen in dominant parietal lobe disease[4].

5. Limb-kinetic: inability to make fine/precise movements with a limb.

6. Oculomotor: difficulty coordinating eye movements.

7. Dressing: inability to dress oneself despite adequate motor ability[5].

8. Gait: difficulty initiating and maintaining a normal walking pattern when sensory and motor functions seem otherwise unimpaired[6].
