SUMMARY

ANTI-CHOLINERGIC
1. Sedation
2. Agitation

METABOLIC
3. Hyperglycemia and development of diabetes
4. Weight gain (more so with clozapine and olanzapine)
5. Hyperlipidemia (more so with clozapine, olanzapine, and quetiapine)

CARDIAC
6. QT prolongation

OTHER
7. Stroke: only studied with risperidone; demented elderly patients treated with risperidone experienced more TIAs and strokes than placebo-treated patients
8. Affect D2 receptors less, hence less likely to cause motor SE such as tardive dyskinesia, PD, dystonia & akathesia
9. All antipsychotics can potentially cause neuroleptic malignant syndrome: fever, rigidity, leucocytosis
