SUMMARY

American College of Rheumatology (ACR) diagnostic criteria in SLE (presented in the SOAP BRAIN MD mnemonic):
1. Serositis: pleuritis, pericarditis
2. Oral ulcers: usually painless
3. Arthritis: nonerosive
4. Photosensitivity
5. Blood disorders: low WBC, lymphs, hemolytic anemia
6. Renal disease: proteinuria, RBC casts
7. Antinuclear antibodies
8. Immunologic phenomena (+anti-dsDNA; anti- Smith [Sm] antibodies, anti-cardiolipin [ACL] abs)
9. Neurologic disorder: seizure or psychosis
10. Malar rash
11. Discoid rash
