SUMMARY
1. First half (descending) handles reabsorption of 20% of remaining water (following an osmotic gradient) and a little bit of solutes.
2. The second half (ascending) handling reabsorption of only solutes via active transport, driving the actions of the first half.
3. In the thin ascending segment, NaCl passively diffuses into the interstitium.
SOLUTES ARE ABSORBED VIA 3 MECHANISMS
