ACUTE KIDNEY INJURY (AKI)

SUMMARY

1. AKI is defined as an increase in the serum creatinine by 0.3 mg/dL or by 1.5-fold over baseline within 48 hours, or by oliguria (urine output < 0.5 mL/kg/hr) for at least 6 hours.
2. Anuria is <50 mL/d.
3. Aetiology: pre-renal, post-renal, intrinsic.
4. Classification: non-oliguric, oliguric, or anuric.
