INTRINSIC MUSCLES OF THE HAND-DORSAL INTEROSSEI

SUMMARY

1. O: adjacent dorsal sides of 5 metacarpals. 2. I: base of the proximal phalanx and extensor hood of their related digits. 1st muscle inserts to lateral side of index finger. 2nd & 3rd muscles insert to either side of middle finger. 4th muscle inserts into medial side of ring finger.
3. NS: deep branch of the ulnar n.
4. BS: deep palmar arch.
5. A: abducts digits from the axial line (middle finger) of the hand, flex digits at the MCPJ and extend at IPJ.
