SUMMARY

Note that mortality has improved significantly in the recent years, in first-world countries, such that mortality for patient's with SCI approaches that of the normal population. Below is an approximation in lower socioeconomic populations:

SURVIVAL DURATION
1. 10yr old patient: survives 50yrs
2. 20yr old patient: survives 40yrs
3. 30yr old patient: survives 30yrs
4. 40yr old patient: survives 20yrs

MORTALITY CAUSES
5. Most common cause of death is due to respiratory diseases and highest mortality within the first year post-injury
