SUMMARY

1. Bosch et al (1970) reported that 90% of persons with central cord syndrome, but only few with anterior cord lesions, were able to ambulate after SCI.

2. Maynard et al reported that 87% of persons with motor incomplete tetraplegia were walking, whereas 47% of motor complete were walking by 1 year.

3. Preservation of pinprick sensation near the anus indicates greater than 70% chance of regaining ambulatory ability, while persons who lack light touch sensation are unlikely to regain ambulatory ability.
