SUMMARY

1. Strong association between chronic pain and depression.

2. Somatic symptoms of major depressive disorder can also be common in patients with chronic pain (change in appetite & weight, loss of energy, and sleep disturbance).

3. Chronic pain precedes depression.

4. Predictors of depression: pain intensity, number of painful areas reported, frequency of severe pain, other related psychosocial factors.
