SUMMARY

1. Nociceptive pain arises from actual or threatened damage to non-neural tissue and is due to the activation of nociceptors.

2. Nociceptive pain can trigger chronic pain.

SUBTYPES
3. Somatic superficial e.g. skin, oral mucosa.

4. Deep e.g. muscle, bone, visceral solid or hollow organs.
