SUMMARY

1. About 4 million people, 1 in 6 Australians (16% of the population) had back pain in 2017/18.

2. Second leading cause of disease burden in Australia (4.1% total disease burden in Australia), leading cause globally.

3. In 2017/18 there was 181,000 hospitalizations.

4. Pain at least moderately interfered with ADLs in 38% of people with back pain.

5. $4.8 billion AUD spent per annum to manage LBP, reducing GDP by $3.2 billion per annum.
