SUMMARY

ACUTE CELLULITIS
1. For streptococci: penicillin or amoxicillin 500 mg 6 hourly.
2. If there is pus, think staph infections; dicloxicillin or flucloxicillin 500mg 6 hourly.
3. For penicillin hypersensitivy: cephalexin 500 mg 6 hourly or clindamycin 450 mg 8 hourly.

RECURRENT CELLULITIS
4. Antibiotic prophylaxis should be offered to those who have 2 or more attacks/year: penicillin 500 mg daily or amoxicillin 250 mg BD.
5. Or if allergic: erythromycin 250 mg daily.
