SUMMARY

1. Atelectasis.

2. Diminished diaphragmatic movement & chest expansion leading to impaired secretion clearance & ventilation.

3. Reduced cough and bronchial ciliary activity.

4. Reduction in overall pulmonary function with decreased tidal volume (TV), minute volume (MV), vital capacity (VC).

5. Patients can develop hypostatic pneumonia.
